Kingspan Thermafloor TF70 is an insulation material specifically designed for floor applications within residential and commercial buildings. Designed with solid concrete and suspended ground floors in mind. Thermafloor TF70 is manufactured with Nilflam technology. TF70 is made up of a high-quality fibre-free rigid thermoset polyisocyanurate (PIR) core. Both sides of the core have facings that are bonded to low emissivity composite foil during the manufacturing process.

Kingspan Thermafloor

The foil facings improve the thermal resistance of any unventilated cavity adjacent to the board. This board is 1200mm by 2400mm is available in thicknesses from 20mm to 150mm and has a thermal conductivity of just 0.022W/mK.

Key Features:

  • Thermal conductivity as low as 0.022 W/mK
  • Compressive strength: exceeds 140 kpa at 10% compression
  • Water vapour resistivity: greater than 100 MN.s/g
  • Quick response floor heating
  • Perfect for refurbishment
  • Non–deleterious material
  • zero Ozone Depletion Potential and Low Global Warming Potential

This board can be cut using a fine-toothed saw, this is accomplished by measuring the boards to size and making markings if necessary. Then placing the boards on a surface that allows the saw to go all the way through the board. A knife can also be used to score the board, then snapping the board over a straight edge, and then cutting the facing on the other side. Any of cut of the insulation board should be kept in case of gaps within the installed insulation.

Thermafloor TF70 prevent heat from escaping through the floor and creates a more comfortable and temperature-controlled space. Providing your home with the correct insulation materials will provide a more energy-efficient and sustainable environment by helping towards the prevention of global warming and climate change. Kingspan is committed to providing sustainable insulation and has made a commitment to help our planet. All Kingspan packaging is 100% recyclable.

The Kingspan packaging should not be considered as protection for the board against weather conditions. The insulation board should be stored on a flat surface in weatherproof conditions preferable inside a building. If the boards should have to be stored outside the correct weatherproofing materials should be provided. Boards that have been allowed to get wet should NOT be used.

The TF70 is a great addition in any solid concrete ground-based floors, it will also provide great insulation for other floor insulation applications. The Kingspan Therma floor board is a multi-purpose board and can be applied in any application that requires controlling heat loss.

Kingspan TF70 can be installed in a range of methods. These methods include:

  • Beam and dense* block ground floors – Insulation below the floor screed
  • Suspended timber ground floors – Insulation between joists
  • Solid concrete ground-based floors – Insulation below the floor screed
  • Solid concrete ground-based floors – Insulation below the floor slab
  • Timber floor on battens
  • Timber floating floor

Installing Thermafloor

STEP 1:

Ensure the site is prepared and foundations, where appropriate, built to damp proof course (DPC) level. A thin sand blinding may be used to achieve a continuous smooth level surface, free from projections.

STEP 2:

The damp proof membrane (minimum 300 micron / 1200 gauge polythene) should be laid with joints well lapped and folded, to prevent the passage of water, prior to laying the insulation boards. The membrane should be brought up the surrounding walls until it is sufficiently above the height of the walls Damp Proof Course so that it will connect with or form the DPC.

STEP 3:

The insulation boards should always be loose-laid break bonded, with joints lightly butted together. If two layers of insulation are required, the next layer should be horizontally offset to the previous layer, the board joints in the two adjacent layers should not coincide with each other.

STEP 4:

A strip of the insulation board (minimum 20 mm thick) should be placed vertically around the outside of the floor slab in order to prevent cold bridging. The top of the strip of insulation board should be level with the top of the floor screed and the bottom should be level with the bottom of the horizontal floor insulation, and closely butted up to it with no gaps.

STEP 5:

Insulation boards should be overlaid with a polythene sheet (not less than 125 micron / 500 gauge), to prevent the wet concrete from penetrating the joints between the boards and will act as a vapour control layer. Ensure the polythene sheet has 150 mm overlaps, taped at the joints, and is turned up 100 mm at the walls. The concrete slab and screed should be allowed to dry out prior to the installation of the floor finish.
