We sell a variety of Phenolic insulation on our website. Phenolic insulation is a kind of rigid insulation material that is used in both residential and commercial buildings. Phenolic insulation rigid insulating core formed of plastic foam bonded between two flexible tissue faced layers. It has a high closed cell content and fine cell structure. Phenolic insulation is very rigid, unlike other fuzzier insulating materials.

Cheap Phenolic Insulation

At Trade Insulations, we are home to cheap phenolic insulation. We sell phenolic insulation from top brands such as Kingspan. Phenolic material can endure extremes in temperatures and can also increase and reduce noise levels. Unlike other insulation materials, it is water-resistant and has a very long lifespan. Its low thermal conductivity allows specified thermal performance targets to be achieved with minimal thickness of insulation. This is particularly significant where space saving is important.

Phenolic Insulation can be applied to a range of applications including:

  • External wall insulation with render
  • Partial fill cavity wall insulation
  • Plasterboard dry lining systems
  • Pitched roofs
  • Rainscreen
  • Soffit insulation
  • Solid and suspended floors

How is phenolic insulation made?

Rigid phenolic insulation is manufactured by mixing high solids and phenolic resin with a surface acting agent. The heat produced by the reaction evaporates a volatile liquid blowing agent in the mixture which produces a network of small bubbles in the material. The foam can be cured to create one of two forms of the product. It can be manufactured by a constant process to create thin sheet material which is laminated with several facings and cut into boards.

Benefits of Phenolic Insulation

  • Low thermal conductivity.
  • Easy to handle, cut, and install.
  • Phenolic insulation is one of the lightest insulation materials.
  • Low water absorption.
  • Creates a more temperature-controlled environment.
  • unaffected by damp, humidity, or moisture.
  • When installed correctly the materials will last for as long as the building itself.
  • Saves money on energy bills.
  • Resistant to corrosion.
  • Rigid phenolic insulation can withstand continuous temperatures of up to 120 degrees.
  • Rigid phenolic insulation is non- biodegradable, but waste material can be put back into the manufacturing process for reuse.
  • Rigid phenolic is dimensionally stable and can be cut accurately to achieve a snug fit in situations such as between rafters where airtightness will be improved.

How is phenolic Insulation installed?

How Phenolic insulation is installed depends on two factors. Where the insulation is being installed. What application method best suits the property. Phenolic boards are generally measured and cut to size and installed between or on top of rafters and joists. In some cases the boards can be applied directly to the wall or the floor using the dot and dab method or using mechanical fixings.

Kingspan K118 is a premium performance phenolic core insulation board bonded to a 12.5mm plasterboard ideal for wall insulation applications. This 2-in-1 product saves time when installing and saves money on materials.

  • 2400mm x 1200mm
  • Thicknesses, 20mm – 80mm
  • Thermal Conductivity 0.018W/mK
  • Thermoset phenolic core

Kingspan K103 floor insulation is a premium performance phenolic core insulation board with glass tissue facings bonded to each side, ideal for floor applications including timber ground floors, below floor screeds and concrete floors.

  • 2400mm x 1200mm
  • Thicknesses, 25mm – 150mm
  • Thermal Conductivity: 0.018W/mK
  • Thermoset phenolic core

Phenolic Insulation FAQs

Is phenolic insulation waterproof?

Rigid phenolic insulation has a 95% closed cell content which makes it highly resistant to moisture penetration. Phenolic insulation also has a low water vapour permeance. Phenolic foam is also non-wicking which means that if water should enter the insulation system due to a puncture in the board, any moisture ingress is limited and confined to the punctured area. This ensures moisture does not build up and compromise the whole system.

Is phenolic foam fire resistant?

The fire performance of phenolic foam is excellent. It combines zero or very low flame spread with negligible smoke emission and a very low level of toxic gas emission. Phenolic foams can be used as an alternative product to PUR or PIR foams where a self-extinguishing, low smoke emission, material is required. Insulating materials are rigorously tested to British Standards and fire performance data, to meet the requirements of building regulations, is generally available from manufacturers.

Is phenolic foam safe?

The composition of the product in normal use does not present a significant health hazard. The reacted foam core has no known toxic effects. Dust generated when cut can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat. When cutting phenolic foam protective wear is recommended such as goggles, facemask, and gloves.

What is Kooltherm?

Kingspan Kooltherm is a range of fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic core boards with a thermal conductivity of 0.018 – 0.023 W/mK and is one of the most thermally efficient insulation products commonly used in the market. Kooltherm is a premium range and is not affected by air infiltration and is resistant to moisture and water vapours.
