Plasterboards are also known as Drywall and consist of materials Gyproc or Gypsum packed into heavy-duty paper which can be used to create external or internal walls of homes or commercial buildings. The tapered edge plasterboard has a tapered of angles edge designed for filling and sanding for a flush perfect finish. The boards come in a range of sizes and thicknesses. The tapered edge boards are commonly used for walls to create a smooth join between boards and a finish easily decorated avoiding the board edges protruding after applying finishing products.

Square edge plasterboard differs from tapered edge plasterboard. The squared edge plasterboard has a squared-off flat edge designed for the close butting of boards. The boards come in a range of sizes and thicknesses. The squared edge boards are commonly used for ceilings to create a less visible join between boards and a smooth finish.

What types of tapered edge plasterboards are available?

Tapered edge Wallboards have a squared edge and are a basic standard board design for multiple applications including walls and ceilings. The boards come in thicknesses of 9.5mm, 12.5mm, and 15mm.

Fire boards have a tapered edge and include an integrated vapour control layer for the application of internal walls in areas such as hallways, ceilings, and partition walls designed to prevent the spread of fire. The boards come in thicknesses of 12.5mm and 15mm.

Moisture Boards have a tapered edge and include moisture-resistant additives for the application of humid or wet areas prone to moisture within residential and commercial buildings such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms designed to prevent moisture. The boards come in thicknesses of 12.5mm and 15mm.

Acoustic boards have a tapered edge and a high-density core designed for the application of internal walls to prevent noise from travelling throughout residential and commercial buildings. The boards come in thicknesses of 12.5mm and 15mm.

Tapered edge plasterboards are installed by attaching the boards onto a timber frame using the appropriate fixings. The boards should measure and cut to size before applying and installed staggered where possible so that the seams don’t compile onto the same batten. The boards should be fitted closely together with a gap no bigger than 5mm for a flush finish. Adhesives should be applied to fill in the taper of the boards. Scrim tape should be applied to all board joins and corner beads to corners to avoid the boards cracking or crumbling during the plastering process. Decoration can then be applied.
