Description

Superglass Multi-Roll 44 is a Glass Mineral Wool roll, designed to improve the thermal conductivity of your home or work environment. It is non-combustible insulation with the best possible Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification. The Rolls are odourless, rot proof, non-hygroscopic, do not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould, or bacteria. Superglass rolls are extremely durable and when installed correctly, they will have a life span that lasts for as long as the building does. Multi-rolls contain no ozone-depleting substances or greenhouse gases. This product is manufactured from up to 84% recycled glass.

The Superglass 44 rolls are tightly compact and lightweight which makes storing, handing easy as well as installing the insulation. For long term protection on site, the product should either be stored indoors, or under cover and off the ground. The rolls polythene packs are designed for short term protection only and they should not be left permanently exposed to the elements. Glass and Rock Mineral Wool products are easier to install correctly than other insulation materials such as rigid boards as their flexibility allows them to adapt to any slight imperfections in the substrate and knit together, eliminating any air gaps. Evidence shows the absence of air gaps is crucial to achieving a high-quality thermal performance.

Key Features:

  • Designed to friction fit between timber studs, which prevents air movement and infiltration through or around the insulation, minimising heat loss.
  • Ready cut to allow quick and simple installation, maximising on-site efficiency when compared with alternative insulants.
  • Non-combustible
  • Easily split as per requirements
  • Provides thermal as well as acoustic performance.
  • Easy to handle and install
  • Roll arrangement permits ready installation.
  • Flexible, resilient, durable, and versatile.
  • High vapour resistance
  • Cost effective

Superglass Rolls are easily cut to size if necessary, using a sharp blade such as a Stanley knife. A heavy ruler or plank of wood can be used to hold the roll as its being cut, and a mat is recommended to ensure the floor or surface is not scratched when cutting.

Superglass Multi-rolls can be installed in a range of methods. These methods include:

  • Suspended timber ground floors
  • New and existing lofts
  • New and existing cold roofs

Before you begin:

  • Check the loft area for any heavy-duty electrical wiring before you lay the roll within the rafters. Any heavy-duty electrical wiring should always be kept above the insulation to avoid the possibility of overheating, or a gap can be left around the outlet. Lower amp lighting cable should be ok to leave as is.
  • Check for any down lighters or hot flues and make sure that the insulation is kept clear by at least 75mm to avoid the risk of a fire.
  • Loft roll can cause irritation and protective gear such as gloves, clothing, face masks and goggles are recommended when using.

Step 1:
Make sure the area is completely clear and no storage is in the space. Ensure you have two crawling boards thick enough to take your weight to stop you from slipping on the joists or falling through the ceiling.

Step 2:

Start at the furthest point of the loft hatch and lay 100mm thick insulation between the joists.

Gently push the roll in at the edges to get a snug fit but don’t push down too much – remember you want as much air as possible to be trapped in the insulation.

If you have any old insulation in place you can decide to either start fresh or simply lay the new insulation on the top of the old insulation.

Start laying the roll at the eaves making sure you leave a slight gap for the air to circulate (25mm ventilation gap). Then roll out towards the centre of the loft. If you have difficulty pressing the material down in the corners of the room, a longer object such as a broomstick can be a handy tall to help press the loft roll down in those harder to reach areas.

When the roll runs out, simply start a new role and but the 2 ends tightly together to avoid thermal bridging.

When you need to cut the roll, mark the length where you need to cut. Grip the roll between 2 boards (one above and one below to hold the role in place) and cut away from yourself with a Stanley knife.

Step 3:

Once you have filled between the joists you now need to lay another layer of insulation horizontally across the top of the joists to avoid heat loss.

Remember you are looking for a combined thickness of over 270mm so for the top layer a minimum of 200mm thickness is recommended. The thicker the better to provide the best insulation to the house/ commercial space, maximise savings and keep energy bills low.

Once you have rolled the entire top layer the job is now complete.

About Superglass
Superglass was founded in 1987 manufacturing in Stirling, Scotland. In 2005 Superglass became the UK’s leading manufacturer of glass mineral wool insulation. In 2017, Superglass became part of the TN International group of companies, a global leader in the manufacture of building supplies. Superglass supplies high-quality products whilst remaining sustainable. Superglass’s waste and fibre waste are recycled to prevent going to the sewer or landfill; advances in their melting process mean they use less energy during production; products are compress-packed to around one-ninth of their original volume, reducing transport costs and the amount of packaging. Superglass products are made from up to 84% recycled glass, which reduces waste disposal and saves valuable resources – giving Superglass products a Generic BRE Green Guide rating of A+.
