52.5mm Kingspan K118

52.5mm Kingspan K118 is an insulation material manufactured with a phenolic core. The K118 insulated Plasterboard has a thermoset fibre-free rigid phenolic core. The K118 board has a low emissivity composite foil facing. These boards are bonded to tapered edge plasterboard. The plasterboard is 12.5mm and gypsum based. The K118 range is available in these additional sizes- K118 32.5mm, K118 37.5mm, K118 42.5mm, K118 62.5mm, K118 72.5mm, K118 82.5mm, and K118 92.5mm.

Phenolic insulation – the most thermally efficient insulation commonly used. Phenolic insulation boards have a manufacturing process where a rigid thermoset foam forms an insulating core between two facing elements. As a result, choosing phenolic insulation will make it easier to reach low target U-values with a minimal thickness of insulation.

Thermal – K118 has a thermal conductivity of just 0.019W/mK. The thermal conductivity means less heat will pass through the insulation boards. As a result, this will keep the internal temperature level. The thermal properties of the K118 52.5mm will also prevent heat and energy escaping the building and because of this the building will be a much more comfortable space.
Sustainability – The K118 insulated plasterboard will help by reducing the heat escaping the building and most importantly, reducing the contribution to global warming. in conclusion, this will have positive effects on climate change. Moreover, the lack of heat loss can save money on energy bills up to 30%.
Storage – Stack the insulated plasterboards on a flat surface, within a cool and dry environment. If left outside, cover the boards with weatherproofing materials. Do not apply pressure to the boards. This includes walking on the boards to avoid damage. If applying excess weight to the boards, as a result they can crumble internally and the thermal quality of the board will be affected.

Key Features of Kingspan K118 Insulated Plasterboard

  • Lightweight and easy to cut, handle, and install
  • Great thermal qualities
  • Temperature controlled internal climate
  • Saves money on monthly bills

  • They do not add to the formation of any gases with Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) or Global Warming Potential (GWP)

Kingspan 52.5mm K118 insulated plasterboard is 2400mm x 1200mm with a thermal conductivity of 0.019W/mK.

Kingspan K118 52.5mm Application

K118 52.5mm boards are a rectangular shape. These boards are designed for easy installation. Installed the boards within the buildings thermal envelope including walls, roofs, and ceilings.
The 52.5mm is all-round performer and manufactured for a range of general building projects and specialist applications. The multi-purpose boards are designed for commercial, residential, and industrial buildings. K118 52.5mm can also be fitted alongside other insulation materials. In addition, K118 can help to meet building regulations. See all application methods listed below:

  • Walls – Solid Brick walls
  • Walls – Metal and timber frames
  • Ceiling – between rafters
  • Walls – Solid Stock Walls
  • Roofs – over pitched roof rafters

The boards are extremely durable and last lasting. The 52.5mm insulated plasterboard will last for as long as the building does, and product performance will not reduce over time. The K118 52.5mm is a well-used product within the construction industry. Unlike insulation boards and plasterboard, 52.5mm insulated plasterboards are a 2-in1 combo that will save time and money. The thinner nature of the 52.5mm means this board is great for overlapping other insulation materials to provide that bit of extra thermal protection.

How To Install Kingspan K118

Cut Kingspan K118 insulated plasterboards using a fine-toothed saw or a sharp knife. Use the Sharpe knife by scoring and snapping the boards and scoring the other side.
Always consult a building / construction professional before insulation your property. This can be a costly and time effective mistake. Ensure the walls are free from condensation and mould before insulating. Please note this is a guide only.

Firstly, install timber battens (backed with a strip of damp proof course) onto solid walls. Fix the battens around the wall’s perimeter including openings such as doors and windows no more than 75mm from its end. Then install the battens horizontally at 600mm centres around the room.
Secondly, fix the boards onto the timber, lightly butting two sheets at the centre of the battens, and fitting fixings 10mm from the boards edge. Apply either drywall screws (which can be used at 300mm centres) or large headed galvanised clout nails (at 150mm centres).
Thirdly, When all the boards are fixed to the battens, apply finishings. This includes any tape, beading, filler, adhesive, and decorative materials to complete the walls.

Question:

Is Kingspan good for soundproofing?

tradein
01-Sep-2022

Answer:

No, Kingspan insulation materials are made of polyisocyanurate (PIR) core or a Phenolic core. These materials are not good sound proofing materials. These materials are thermal insulators and have very little or no acoustic value. The best sound proofing materials are mineral wool.

Question:

Is there an alternative product to Kingspan K118?

tradein
01-Sep-2022

Answer:

There is no alternative or like for like product to match the specifications of Kingspan K118. Kooltherm, the only range manufactured with a phenolic core. This phenolic core has a thermal conductivity of just 0.019W/mK, as a result the K118 is unbeaten when it comes to insulation materials.

Question:

Does Kingspan K118 have an integral Vapour control Layer (VCL)?

tradein
01-Sep-2022

Answer:

Kingspan K118 contains an integral VCL, as a result the boards will have increased thermal efficiency. This helps you reach those U-values as well as improving the airtightness of a building. Although K118 has an internal Vapour Control Layer, the material should always be paired with a breather membrane. A breather membrane - an external materials allowing vapour to escape from the inside of the building

The Kingspan Group is a family business that was founded in 1965 in Ireland which was making wheelbarrows at the time. Soon after, founder Eugene Murtagh saw an opportunity with roof panels and rigid insulation, which has continued to grow to this day. It has now grown to become one of the most well-known providers of insulation products and is renowned for its excellent quality and high-performance results. Kingspan is also committed to making a difference to the environment and tackling climate change. Kingspan now has 129 manufacturing sites in over 70 countries around the world and is still growing.
