By insulating your home, you can save money on your monthly energy bills. It also provides a more comfortable living or working environment with a more controlled temperature whilst keeping the heat out in the summer and the heat in during the winter. You will also be creating a more sustainable and energy efficient environment by stopping the hot air from escaping your home, this will contribute towards tackling climate change and global warming.

This board can be cut using a fine-toothed saw, this is accomplished by measuring the boards to size and making markings if necessary. Then placing the boards on a surface that allows the saw to go all the way through the board. A plank of wood or ruler can be used to hold the board in place and can also create a guide. A knife can also be used by making a cut in the board, then snapping the board, and then running the knife along the cut from the other side.

Protective clothing is recommended to prevent particles that are produced from cutting insulation boards, from being inhaled or irritating to the skin and eyes. Goggles, face masks, and gloves can also be worn to provide protection.

Kingspan Kooltherm K5 can be installed in a range of methods. These methods include:

HOW TO INSTALL EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION

Before starting to fit the external wall insulation, a render test should be carried out to check how durable the existing render is and it is strong enough or will support the insulation materials. Providing the render is strong enough, it should then be smoothed out so that insulation can be fixed onto it. The render will need to be removed from the wall if it is not strong enough before the insulation process begins.

After the render has been smoothed out and has proved durable, pipework should be removed from the external property before installing insulation. Downpipes should also be installed temporarily to stop water running down the sides of the building. Soil pipes and waste pipes should be removed or extended away from walls to allow the building to function normally when installation takes place.

Install a layer of protective film over all window and doors to ensure they do not get damaged during the insulation application process.
Decide the height that you would like the insulation to begin. When the height has been decided a aluminium start track or carrier tray will be installed. This will provide a level starting point and can be applied to fitting beading. Please note insulation should begin a few inches or feet above ground.

After the starter track has been installed, the board can then be applied. A layer of adhesive should be applied to one side of each board and then the boards should be applied onto the wall in a staggered pattern. Insulation boards should be cut to fit around windows, doors, and other obstructions. A rasp can be used once the insulation is installed to fill of any edges of the board to ensure there is a completely flat surface.

Mechanical fixings should also be added to secure the boards to the walls. 10 fixings should be hammered in per square metre. This will secure the boards and stop them blowing off during bad weather.

Corner beads and stop beads should be installed around windows, doors, and other obstructions to ensure the insulation is fitted tightly and securely. Neat edges should be created to prevent the insulation materials meeting other materials.

Two layers of render with strengthening properties should be applied with a fibreglass mesh setting between each layer of render.
