  • About Rockwool
Description

Rockwool Rollbatt is a medium density stone wool insulation roll designed to improve a properties thermal conductivity and is suitable for use in a wide range of applications. This product can be applied to new builds, refurbishments, and extensions in residential or commercial buildings.

Rockwool provides a variety of three Rolls that are lightweight to deliver products that are quick and easy to install, whatever the application. Rockwool Roll consists of a single thickness of 1200mm wide roll, which can be cut to fit as required. TwinRoll is pre-split into 2 x 100mm thick layers in a pack. It is recommended that 100mm is installed between the rafters, and then 200mm over the rafters. Rockwool Rollbatt is manufactured to pre-cut widths of 400mm (x3) or 600mm (x2), in thicknesses of 100mm and 150mm. The Rollbatt provide a thermal conductivity of 0.044W/mK and is supplied on pallets and protected by waterproof covering.

The advantages of Rockwool RW include:

  • Excellent Thermal Insulation
  • Multi-purpose application
  • Available with width pre-cut
  • Durable and long-lasting
  • Product will not sag or slump over time
  • Easy to handle, cut and install
  • Fire Resistant
  • Economical and maintenance-free
  • Non-combustible and water repellent
  • Includes a waterproof covering for outside storage
  • Able to reduce sound and improve acoustics in suspended ceilings
  • Environmentally friendly – no harmful gasses used in the manufacturing process
  • High density for an easier fit

Relying on entrapped air for its thermal properties, Rockwool insulation does not contain (and has never contained) gases that have ozone depleting potential (ODP) or global warming potential (GWP). By insulating your residential or commercial space you are creating a more sustainable environment by reducing the heat levels escaping the building. This will contribute to reducing global warming and tacking climate change. Insulation does only improve your properties energy efficiency but will also save you money on your month energy bills.

The rolls should be stored in a weather-proof environment where the rolls are protected from the elements. The roll can be easily cut with an insulation saw or sharp blade.

Rockwool Rollbatt is an extremely long lasting and durable product. Providing that the building and application structure is in good condition and insulation is installed correctly, the rolls should have a last for as long as the building does.

Rockwool Rollbatt can be installed in a range of methods. These methods include:

  • Roof and loft spaces in all types of building
  • Overlay for ceiling tiles in suspended ceilings
  • Partitions walls
  • Commercial, Industrial, Domestic applications

How to insulate your loft with Rockwool Rollbatt:

Before you begin:

Check for any heavy-duty electrical wiring before you lay the roll. Any heavy-duty electrical wiring should always be kept above the insulation to avoid the possibility of overheating. Lower amp lighting cable should be ok to leave as is.

Check for any downlighters or hot flues and make sure that the insulation is kept clear by at least 75mm to avoid the risk of a fire.

Gloves can be handy when laying and fitting Rollbatt the avoid irritation but are not essential.

If your loft is a hard-to-reach area, specialists are available with the suitable tools to insulate your loft.

Step 1: Make sure the area is completely clear. Have 2 crawling boards thick enough to take your weight to stop you from slipping on the joists or falling through the ceiling.

Step 2: Start at the furthest point of the loft hatch and lay 100mm thick Rollbatt insulation between the joists. Gently push the roll in at the edges to get a snug fit but don’t push down too much – remember you want as much air as possible to be trapped in the insulation.

If you have any old insulation in place you can decide to either start fresh or to simply lay the new insulation on the top of the old insulation.

Start laying the Rollbatt at the eaves making sure you leave a slight gap for the air to circulate (25mm ventilation gap). Then roll out towards the centre of the loft. If you have difficulty pressing the material down in the corners of the room, a broom stick can be a handy tall to help to press the loft roll down in those harder to reach areas.

When the roll runs out, simply start a new role and put the 2 ends together.

When you need to cut the roll, mark the length where you need to cut. Grip the roll between 2 boards (one above and one below to hold the role in place) and cut with a Stanley knife.

Step 3: Once you have filled between the joists you now need to lay another layer across the top of the joists to avoid heat loss.

Remember you are looking for a combined thickness of over 270mm so for the top layer a minimum of 200mm thickness is recommended. The thicker the better to provide the best insulation to the house/ commercial space, maximise savings and keep energy bills low.

Once you have placed Rollbatt over the entire top layer the job is now complete.Top of Form

Please note this is a guide only. A building professional should be consulted before insulating your loft.
