The Kingspan Group is a family business that was founded in 1965 in Ireland which was making wheelbarrows at the time. Soon after, founder Eugene Murtagh saw an opportunity with roof panels and rigid insulation, which has continued to grow to this day. It has now grown to become one of the most well-known providers of insulation products and is renowned for its excellent quality and high-performance results. Kingspan is also committed to making a difference to the environment and tackling climate change.
Kingspan now has 129 manufacturing sites in over 70 countries around the world and is still growing.
Kingspan Insulation Sustainability
Kingspan practices sustainability by making sure social, economic, and environmental parameters are respected and included when managing business procedures.
Kingspan insulation products provide energy savings for buildings. Kingspan products provide the best thermal efficiency and product lifespan on the market.
Kingspan also started Planet Passion, a 10-year global sustainability program set up in 2020 aiming to have a positive impact on climate change, circularity, and the protection of our natural world. Some of the commitments behind the Planet Passion plan includes:
- Maintain net-zero energy target
- Improve use and generation of renewable energy by 2030
- Zero-emission company cars by 2025
- 1 billion PET bottles upcycled into insulation by 2025
- 5 active ocean clean-up projects by 2025
- Zero company waste to landfill by 2030
- 100 million liters of rainwater harvested by 2030

The Kooltherm range – known as the K Range – is the most used Kingspan product selection.
The K range gives a thermal resistance from 0.018 to 0.023 W/mK which is available in a variety of thicknesses across all products that are accessible for several different applications. The main reason the K range is so popular is that it offers a much thinner board which saves space offering larger room sizes without interfering with the U-Value.
Kingspan K range is a more expensive choice in comparison to other insulation products/brands however the strong thermal resistance it provides unmatched quality and makes a premium product that is very popular with builders and architects around the world.
Kooltherm also offers a better fire performance than other standard PIR products therefore, it is commonly seen in industrial buildings, hospitals, and oil rigs.
Popular Kingspan Products:
Insulated Plasterboard K118 –
Premium performance insulated plasterboard from the Kooltherm range with a thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/mK with sizes ranging from 20mm to 80mm. This can be used to line internal walls when both insulation and plasterboard are needed.
Pitched Roof Board K7 –
Premium performance pitched roof board insulation board from the Kooltherm range with a thermal conductivity of 0.020 W/mK with sizes ranging from 25mm to 150mm. This can be used for multi-insulation purposes but is most popular for Pitched Roofs.
Cavity Wall Board K106 –
Premium performance Cavity boards from the Kooltherm range with a thermal conductivity of 0.018W/mK with sizes 90mm or 180mm available. This can be used in the external walls between brickwork and blockwork.
Insulation Board TP10 –
Premium performance insulation boards from the Thermapitch range with a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W.mK with sizes ranging from 20mm to 150mm. This can be used for multi-insulation purposes including lining walls, flat roofs, cladding, floor insulation and more but is most popular for Pitched Roofs.
What is U-Value?
U-Value is a summary of the thermal resistance of the entire building structure. The U-Value shows the amount of heat lost in a room. The lower the U Value the better as it means the building is very well insulated.
