Insulation rolls are a popular form of insulation, which has a variety of application types. When installed correctly, they can help keep a building cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Insulation rolls are widely used due to their thermal performance. In addition to this, some insulation rolls may also boast acoustic and fireproof properties. Loft rolls are a type of insulation used to insulate loft space. They are typically made from mineral wool or fibreglass and are available in many thicknesses. We stock many brands such as Knauf, Isover, and Rockwool.

Rolls of Insulation

Insulation rolls are available in many different styles, densities and thicknesses. When buying rolls of insulation, you should consider factors such as your project's requirements, budget and installation space. For example, if you wanted a product that could provide both insulation and soundproofing properties, then an acoustic roll such as Knauf's acoustic roll may be suited to you.

As every building project is bespoke, we suggest you speak with an architect so you can make an informed decision on the right insulation roll for your project. In addition to this, we always recommend you use a building professional to install any type of insulation. On the contrary, installing insulation is a relatively easy task that can be achieved by a lot of DIY enthusiasts and self-builders.

The type of installation will vary depending on the product and its application. The product manufacturers can provide full installation guides. These may differ between brands and products. For example, Knauf Loft Roll 44 is designed to be installed between the joists at either 600mm or 400mm centres.

Loft Insulation Rolls

Loft insulation rolls are used to effectively insulate a loft space. A loft is where nearly a quarter of all heat is lost so installing insulation rolls can have a big impact. They work by creating a thermal barrier to reduce heat loss through the roof. This can reduce the need for the use of excess energy to heat or cool a home. Subsequently, it can provide savings on energy bills.

Loft rolls are a cost-effective way to insulate a home. In addition to this, they can provide enhanced thermal efficiency as well as comfort.

On our website, we boast a range of loft roll products from different big brands. A breakdown of these products can be found below:

Knauf Loft Rolls 44

Knauf Loft Rolls are a popular product by Knauf. They are non-combustible insulation rolls, which are designed for use in loft applications. These glass mineral rolls are easy to handle and install and available in thicknesses from 100mm up to 200mm. They are combi-cut for added ease of installation. The thermal conductivity of these insulation rolls is 0.044 W/mK.

Isover Spacesaver Loft Roll

Much like Knauf's Loft Roll 44, these are available in thicknesses ranging from 100mm up to 200mm. The Isover Spacesaver Loft Roll itself is pre-perforated at 3 x 386mm and 2 x 580mm. The purpose of this is that it enables easy installation between 400mm or 600mm joist centres. The product itself has a thermal conductivity of 0.044 W/mK

Acoustic Rolls

Acoustic rolls are a type of insulation specifically designed to reduce sound transmission and enhance acoustic comfort within buildings. They are made from materials that have sound-absorbing properties, such as mineral wool (Rockwool or glass wool) or fibreglass. These materials are effective at dampening sound vibrations and minimising the passage of sound between rooms or from outside sources, making them an essential component in building design where noise reduction is a priority.

On our website, we stock a variety of acoustic insulation rolls, which can provide both thermal and acoustic properties.

Knauf Acoustic Rolls

These acoustic rolls are manufactured by Knauf and specifically designed to help soundproof a property. They also provide fireproof and thermal qualities. The rolls are to be installed in internal wall and floor applications. They are available to buy on our website in a variety of thicknesses. In addition to this, they are produced with a density greater than 10kg/m³. They are made to fit snugly between studs, sealing joints effectively to minimise the chance of unwanted gaps and guarantee superior sound insulation levels.

Isover Acoustic Rolls

The Isover acoustic rolls are a low-cost insulation and acoustic solution. It is available in thicknesses ranging from 25mm up to 100mm. The Isover Acoustic Roll has a fire rating of A1, which is technically classed as non-combustible. These rolls have a thermal conductivity of 0.043W/mk

On our website, we sell either mineral wool or fibreglass rolls.

Mineral Wool Rolls

Mineral wool is a widely used form of insulation. It boasts thermal, acoustic and fireproofing properties. The values of these properties may vary per mineral wool product. Rockwool is a well-known brand and manufacturer of mineral wool insulation. This type of insulation is made by heating volcanic rocks to an extreme temperature. This is then spun into fine fibres and further processed. This can then be cut into rolls or slabs to be fit for purpose. Some mineral wool rolls may also boast soundproofing properties. Rockwool has provided a video below to show how they make their products:

Fibreglass Rolls

Fibreglass is an excellent material to be used as insulation. Fibreglass is typically made from a combination of glass and sand. These are heated at extreme temperatures and then a binding agent is added. The blend becomes wool-like and is cooled by the air. Once processed, the end material can be cut into rolls of different densities and thicknesses. Fibreglass is an excellent insulator as it can trap air. In addition to this, it can help reduce the flow of heat. Brands such as Knauf manufacture fibreglass rolls with excellent thermal performance.

The benefits of using insulation roll

The benefits of installing insulation rolls may vary between products, however, typically insulation rolls benefit from the following:

  • Lightweight and easy to transport
  • Easy to handle and install
  • Made up of recycled materials
  • Excellent thermal and acoustic properties
  • Improves the properties thermal conductivity
  • Energy Efficient
  • More comfortable living and working spaces
  • Low cost insulation option
  • Odourless, non-hygroscopic, rot proof, do not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould, or bacteria

  • Cheaper energy bills
  • Helps comply with applicable regulations
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
