Unilin PIR Board
Unilin PIR insulation boards are an insulation material designed for use in multi-purpose applications to improve the thermal performance within a residential or commercial building. PIR insulation boards are made up of a rigid polyisocyanurate core with two layers of low emissivity composite foil bonded to each side. Unilin (PIR) insulation board is constructed by a constant foaming process, which offers the board A tight cell structure and bonds facing to the foam. After the completion of the foaming process, the boards are cut to size and left to cure.
The board sizes available are 1200mm by 2400mm and come in a range of thicknesses from 25mm to 165mm. They provide thermal conductivity of 0.022W/mK. They are made CFC and HCFC free with zero Ozone Depletion Potential and Zero Global Warming Potential.
By installing insulation into your property, you are reducing the amount of heat escaping your home, creating a more comfortable temperature-controlled environment, and saving money on energy bills. The reduction of heat will make your property more energy-efficient and will help to make sustainable changes by contributing to tackling climate change and global warming.
The boards are lightweight and easy to cut, handle, and install. Insulation boards can be applied to new builds, refurbishments, and extensions. The composite foil works by reflecting heat back into the space. As the heat reaches the insulated envelope of the property the heat will be reflected by the foil, pushing the warm air back, circulating the heat around the property.

- Fire-resistant: Yes
- Multi-purpose application
- Extremely durable and long lasting
- Raise the inner leaf 450mm above the outer leaf (two courses of blockwork or six of brickwork).
- Fit the first run of Unilin boards against the inner leaf, supported on top of wall ties or the concrete cavity fill.
- Raise outer leaf by 450mm.
- Notch the top of the Unilin boards and fit wall ties.
- Fit clips to hold the boards against the inner leaf.
- Repeat the sequence to the required height of the wall, staggering the vertical board joints
Durability:
Unilin insulation boards are strong and rigid which gives it the ability to withstand the weight of load-bearing floors. When the product is installed according to manufacturer specifications and building regulations the insulation boards have a service life comparable to that of the rest of the building.
Cutting PIR boards:
Insulation board can be cut using a fine-toothed saw or a Stanley blade.
To cut with a saw, measure and mark the boards if necessary. Place the boards on a higher surface with room below for the saw to cut through.
To cut with a Stanley blade, measure and mark the boards if necessary. Use the blade to score the board on one side. Then snap the board over a hard edge and score the other side of the board with the blade.
Unilin PIR Insulation boards can be installed in a range of methods. These methods include:
Floor insulation below and above concrete applications
Wall Insulation internal and external wall applications including cavity walls and dry lined walls
Roof insulation pitched roofs and flat cold roof applications including above, between, and below rafters.
Loft conversions between and below rafters

Installation notes:
Protective gear such as gloves, face masks, protective clothing and eye goggles are recommended when cutting and handling insulation boards as the particles produced can irritate the skin and eyes and can be harmful if inhaled.
Always ensure boards are tightly butted together to avoid thermal bridging when heat escapes through small gaps within the insulation. Foil tape can be applied to the joins in the butted boards to provide extra protection against thermal bridging.
Installation Guide:
Storage:
Insulation boards should be stored indoors in a weatherproof space on a flat surface. If indoor storage is not an option, make sure the boards are covered with the correct weatherproof materials. If the boards get a little wet, the boards should be wiped over and left to dry before using. If the boards are too wet, they should not be used. Take care not to knock or stand on the boards to avoid damage.
Please note this is just a guide and an architect or building professional should be consulted before starting any construction works on your property. Installing the incorrect insulation materials or using a method not compatible with your home or office space, can cause damage and may not comply with standard building regulations.
